It comes as no surprise that higher traffic volume results in more traffic accidents. The dangers of drinking and driving are all too familiar. But when high traffic volume and alcohol consumption combine, the results can be serious, and deadly, for Louisiana drivers.

Man killed in crash in rain

A 19-year-old man was fatally injured in a two-car accident on April 24, according to a report from Louisiana State Police officials. When the fatal collision occurred, investigators say that the road conditions were rainy, and the man had been attempting to pass in front of several vehicles. Troopers began investigating the crash just before 5:30 p.m.

Louisiana man faces charges of negligent homicide

A 27-year-old man involved in a collision in February remained at a prison in Donaldsonville on April 22 instead of posting a $100,000 bail. The driver will face felony and misdemeanor charges for a collision that resulted in the death of a 66-year-old SUV driver. Police reports state that there was no evidence that the man had consumed any drugs or alcohol the morning of the Feb. 22 collision, and the driver admitted to having done drugs the previous day.

New Orleans crash kills 1

On April 5, New Orleans authorities reported that a 27-year-old woman was killed in a car crash on Interstate 55. The state police reported that the woman had been involved in another accident and was outside of her vehicle when she was struck by a 2003 Toyota.

Female pedestrian killed in Louisiana parking lot crash

A Marrero woman died in a hospital on March 7 after an SUV crashed into her and her husband around noon as they walked through a private parking lot. The fatal crash happened along Louisiana Highway 45. Authorities were still investigating the cause at the time of the report.

The dangers of distracted driving

With the sharp rise in cellphone use among drivers in Louisiana and across the U.S. over the last decade, distracted driving has become a very important safety topic. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 421,000 people were injured in car accidents involving distracted drivers in 2012, and 3,328 people were killed.

Drunk driving crash statistics demonstrate problem's extent

Louisiana residents are seriously injured or killed in accidents caused by drunk drivers every year. The problem is of course not one just relegated to the state, but instead it is one with national reach. In 2012, 10,322 people were killed in accidents caused by intoxicated drivers across the country.

Multiple deaths reported in Louisiana car accident

Police say that they have identified three people who were killed in a car crash that took place on Jan. 18 just after 5 p.m. Two of the victims were females aged 31 and 41 while the third victim was a male. Police say that the crash occurred when a 2014 Sentra driven by the 41-year-old female crossed the center line while driving north on U.S. Highway 71 near Clarence.

Louisiana collision results in 3 deaths on New Year's Eve

According to authorities, three people died following a two-vehicle collision that occurred around 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 in Livingston Parish. The incident took place on LA Hwy 447, south of Interstate 12. State Police believe that the accident occurred as a 24-year-old male driver of a 2004 Mazda MZ6 was traveling northbound on the highway and crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic. The Mazda struck another car, a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer that was traveling southbound; the 38-year-old driver of that vehicle sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.
