Louisiana motorcycle accident kills 2

The Louisiana State Police have reported that an accident involving a sedan and a motorcycle in Rapides Parish claimed the lives of two people on March 15. The deceased individuals were the motorcycle's rider and passenger. Responding troopers cited the driver of the car for making an improper turn, and they said that they were awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine if alcohol consumption or drug use contributed to the accident.

According to a LSP report, the motorcycle accident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 121 in Hineston. They say that the motorcycle was proceeding southbound when it struck a sedan that had been in the process of making a left turn into a store's parking lot. Troopers said that the motorcycle's rider had attempted to avoid a collision, but he was unable to do so.

Responding emergency medical services personnel transported the 59-year-old man who had been riding the motorcycle to a medical facility in Alexandria for treatment. The man's 59-year-old female passenger was taken to an area trauma center. Both were subsequently pronounced dead. Troopers say that both of the accident victims were wearing safety helmets at the time of the accident. The 62-year-old man behind the wheel of the car escaped the collision without injury.

Many motorcyclists are killed every year in accidents caused by vehicles making turns. These collisions often occur at high speeds and give riders little chance to take evasive action. The dependent family members of those killed in this kind of accident often face severe financial hardship when a depended upon source of household income is lost, and unexpected expenses such as medical bills and funeral costs can make their situation even more difficult. When the accident that claimed the life of their loved one is caused by an impaired, distracted or reckless driver, a personal injury attorney may pursue civil remedies on their behalf. A wrongful death lawsuit could seek to hold negligent motorists financially responsible for the injury, loss or damage they have caused.
