Multiple deaths reported in Louisiana car accident

Police say that they have identified three people who were killed in a car crash that took place on Jan. 18 just after 5 p.m. Two of the victims were females aged 31 and 41 while the third victim was a male. Police say that the crash occurred when a 2014 Sentra driven by the 41-year-old female crossed the center line while driving north on U.S. Highway 71 near Clarence.

When the car crossed the center line, it collided with a 2001 Pontiac that was driven by the 31-year-old female. The male who was killed in the crash was a passenger in the Pontiac. A 22-year-old female passenger in the Sentra was sent to Natchitoches Regional Hospital with minor injuries. Three children in the Pontiac were sent to Natchitoches Regional Hospital and Rapides Regional Trauma Center for treatment.

According to authorities, two of the children received minor injuries while the third suffered serious brain trauma. The crash is still under investigation and toxicology tests were pending. According to police, the two drivers and the children in the Pontiac were all properly restrained. There was no information as to whether the male victim was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.

Those who are injured in a car accident may choose to file a lawsuit against the driver whose negligence was the cause. This is true even if that driver was killed in the accident, as a personal injury lawsuit can be maintained against the decedent's estate. Consulting with an attorney may make it easier to determine what type of compensation may be available to the victims. In addition, if anyone is killed in a car accident, the family of the victim may file a wrongful death suit to seek compensation for negligence that caused the death.
