People have higher accident risks on Thanksgiving

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Louisianans need to be mindful of the increased risk of motor vehicle accidents over Thanksgiving weekend. Across the nation, there is a spike in traffic fatalities on Thanksgiving, making it possibly the deadliest holiday of the year.

Safety week identifies a number of truck brake violations

Louisiana drivers might be safer following the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's Brake Safety Week. Between Sept. 11 and Sept. 17, more than 18,000 trucks were inspected for brake violations. In all, around 3,900 trucks were removed from service. For 2,352 trucks, the problem was brake violations while for about 1,100 there were other violations in addition to problems with the brakes.

Traumatic brain injuries and how to handle them

When Louisiana bicyclists and motorcyclists are involved in accidents with motor vehicles, they have a high risk of suffering from traumatic brain injuries. It is important for people to understand what to do if a traumatic brain injury is suspected as early treatment may help to prevent secondary conditions and worsened prognoses.

Passenger fatally injured in Louisiana crash

Louisiana State Police report that a 15-year-old male was fatally injured in a crash in Loranger when he was partially ejected from the right rear window of a Hummer on Oct. 22. According to news sources, an unlicensed 17-year-old driver was behind the wheel of the vehicle in which the deceased teenager was riding when the deadly collision with a Freightliner fertilizer spreader truck took place at the intersection of LA 442 and LA 40.
