Avoiding serious motorcycle accidents

Riding a motorcycle in Louisiana is considerably more dangerous than driving a car. The rider has considerably less protection, and many drivers of cars are not accustomed to watching out for motorcycles. This can lead to many serious accidents between cars and motorcyclists. By being aware of some of the most common types of motorcycle accidents, a rider can be better prepared to avoid them.

Car drivers commonly do not see motorcycles, so they are far more likely to maneuver into a motorcycle. A rider should be aware of possible unexpected actions by cars around them at all times. Motorcycles are also more likely to fit into a car's blind spot. A rider should strive to be able to see the other driver's eyes in the side mirror to ensure they are out of the danger zone.

One of the most common types of car accidents is the fender bender. While these accidents are not usually harmful to car drivers, they can be fatal to motorcyclists. Fender benders are most common when a car approaching a stopped car fails to stop. Motorcyclists can protect themselves in this situation by using other cars as a shield. Politely and safely pull in front or alongside other cars stopped at an intersection to use them as a buffer.

Even when a motorcyclist takes all the precautions possible and drives defensively, a collision with another vehicle can still occur. If the accident was caused by the negligence of the other motorist, the injured cyclist may want to speak with a personal injury attorney to determine how best to seek compensation from the responsible party.
