Insurance industry identifies top 10 days for car wrecks

It comes as no surprise that higher traffic volume results in more traffic accidents. The dangers of drinking and driving are all too familiar. But when high traffic volume and alcohol consumption combine, the results can be serious, and deadly, for Louisiana drivers.

Five of the top ten days with the most motor vehicle accidents are holidays associated with high traffic volume and alcohol consumption. Memorial Day, New Year's Day, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving and St. Patrick's Day are among the top ten days of the year for car accidents. New Year's Day ranks as the deadliest day of the year with the highest rate of auto fatalities related to alcohol. July 4th and Memorial Day also rank high in traffic fatalities.

Two holidays are associated with a large number of accidents due to the sheer number of cars on the road: the day of any national football game in any city where a professional football game is played and Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. Christmas makes the top ten list due to a mixture of heavy traffic volume and stress. Two days not associated with holidays also appear on the top 10 list: the six days after the switch to Daylight Savings Time and Friday the 13th.

Every other day of the year also presents a risk of motor vehicle accidents, from minor accidents to fatalities. An individual who has been involved in a car accident as either a driver or a passenger and who has been injured may want to consult an attorney. The attorney may be able to see that the individual receives compensation for medical expenses incurred and any lost earnings.
