Woman dead following LA 594 2-vehicle crash

A deadly vehicle accident occurred Feb. 19 on Louisiana Highway 594 at about 8 p.m. According to State Police Troopers, a GMC pickup truck traveling east on Rowland Road in Monroe allegedly did not stop at the intersection with the highway, where it collided with a northbound Chevrolet Equinox.

The 62-year-old woman driving the Equinox was transported by responders to St. Francis Hospital, where she later died from serious injuries suffered in the wreck. Officials reported that this resident of Monroe was wearing her seat belt during the collision.

The 35-year-old male driver of the pickup truck is also a local area resident. After the preliminary accident investigation, state police issued a citation to the man for failing to yield at a stop sign. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and no injuries to the man were reported. Additional charges may be possible pending the results of a toxicology sample taken from the pickup driver.

When serious injuries result in a victim's death following a vehicle accident such as this one, the family of the deceased may decide to seek the help of a personal injury attorney. The lawyer may obtain the accident investigation reports and advise family members regarding a wrongful death suit.

Regardless of whether criminal charges are pending or not, a suspected negligent driver could be held responsible in a civil lawsuit. The family may be found entitled to compensation for their loss of a loved one. An attorney who understands Louisiana state law might assist family members with insurance company negotiations too. In some cases like this, court litigation may never be necessary.
