A Louisiana accident leads to victim's death

On the afternoon of Feb. 12, a collision between a 2001 Chevrolet Astro van and a 2013 Taoi moped resulted in the death of one of the drivers. The driver of the moped, who was not wearing a helmet at the time, was traveling east on La. 300, heading towards Deborah Drive in St. Bernard. The 2001 Chevrolet Astro van traveled north on Deborah Drive, approaching La. 300. State police reported that when the van turned right onto La. 300, the vehicles collided. The moped hit the rear of the van. The impact of the accident caused the 33-year-old male to be ejected from the moped. He sustained serious injuries. The moped driver was transported to Interim LSU Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It was reported that the 29-year-old male driver of the van cooperated with a request for a breath test. The driver did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol, according to the breath test results. Though the driver of the moped was not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, pending toxicology results may provide further information on the conditions of both drivers.

The circumstances that lead to the death of an auto accident victim may involve some form of negligence. Drivers have a legal obligation to drive with care when operating any vehicle. Failing to exercise adequate caution on the roadway could result in accidents similar to the St. Bernard incident. Victims of negligence may want to obtain legal representation following an accident in order to seek financial recovery.

If a victim dies due to negligence, the victim's family may want to file a wrongful death claim. An experienced lawyer could negotiate the terms of any compensation to which the family may be entitled.
