Woman killed after 3-vehicle crash

Louisiana State Police reported to the scene of a fatal accident in Red River Parish on Nov. 18. The three-car accident resulted in the death of one driver. Toxicology samples were reportedly taken from all of the drivers involved, but the results of tests were not immediately available.

The fatal car accident happened shortly before 8 p.m. while the vehicles were traveling along U.S. Highway 71. A 44-year-old woman who was waiting to enter a private driveway was stopped in the northbound lane in her 2014 Chevrolet Sonic. An approaching 2012 Dodge Avenger driven by a 43-year-old woman then rear-ended the Chevrolet, pushing the car into the southbound lane. The Chevrolet was then hit head-on by a 2009 Toyota Tundra that was traveling southbound.

The 44-year-old woman died from the injuries she suffered during the crash, and it is unclear if the other drivers were injured. According to troopers, the deceased driver was not wearing a seat belt when she was hit. The driver of the Dodge was charged with careless operation of a vehicle the day after the accident.

Family members of a deceased car accident victim might choose to pursue compensation for their loss by filing a wrongful death claim against the liable party. Although understanding which driver was at fault in a multicar accident is not always easy, cases that involve a rear-end collision may be relatively straightforward. When criminal charges are filed against one of the drivers, this information may also help to strengthen a family's wrongful death lawsuit.
