High-speed collision kills 3

According to Louisiana State Police, a high-speed head-on collision in Schriever killed three men on Nov. 10. The accident reportedly occurred around 6:30 p.m. on La. 24 at an S-curve.

Police reported that a 19-year-old Houma man driving a pickup truck was traveling north at a high rate of speed on La. 24. He apparently failed to correctly negotiate the S-curve, causing him to lose control of the truck. His truck then rotated and overturned, crossing the median into the southbound lane. A 30-year-old Patterson man who was also driving a pickup then struck the first truck head-on, causing both vehicles to burst into flames.

Both drivers and a 54-year-old male passenger in the southbound car were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Due to the severity of the fire damage, law enforcement officers have not been able to determine if any of them were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. At the time of the report, police were waiting for toxicology tests in order to determine if alcohol or drugs played a role in the fatal crash.

When people are killed in a car accident due to the negligence or recklessness of another driver, the families that are left behind often suffer significant grief over their losses. Further compounding the pain, families may also experience significant economic losses as a result of the death of their loved ones. By filing a wrongful death lawsuit, families may be able to hold the wrongful driver civilly liable for his or her actions in the accident. When the at-fault driver also dies in the accident, a family may be able to file a lawsuit against the driver's estate.
